Tilt a “disgrace” and Shaq in the WSOP
Published by Textbook 3 years, 5 months ago in In the News, On the Tube, Professionals, CelebritiesJust a couple quick tidbits:
-
ESPN’s “Tilt” seems to be garnering a response much like its predecessor, “Playmakers”, which got
the NFL’sa whole lotta people’s panties all in a bunch.Poker Updates, a monthly online streaming television program covering events and issues current to the world of poker, broadcast a segment which showed professional poker players’ take on the show as less than favorable. Nine-time champion of the World Series of Poker, Doyle Brunson was quoted as calling the show a “disgrace.”
I think that’s a bit harsh.
I mean, yeah, if you want to think about it too much, the show sucks. Sure, the storytelling lacks the narative depth of something like Positively Fifth Street. Sure, it represents poker pros as cheating scumbags. Sure it fails to realize Vegas is more about corporations than gangland tomfoolery nowadays.
But it’s fluff entertainment. What the heck to you expect? Besides, Miami is foxy.
(And – based on the finale – I have a hard time imagining how they’d do another season anyway…) -
Shaq Diesel loves him some poker. And because he is Shaquille O’Neal, he’s getting a year of poker lessons with Greg “Fossilman” Raymer and a buy-in to this year’s WSOP.
He won’t last the day.
